Buying a 4×4 With Modifications
Buying a four wheel drive with modifications on it can be both a good and bad thing, for several reasons. When you have a four wheel drive and you put modifications on it, the value of the vehicle increases. However, it doesn’t increase the same amount as the cost of your modifications. For example, if you spend 10 thousand dollars on some modifications for your 10 thousand dollar car, it isn’t going to be worth 20 thousand just because of those modifications. Realistically you would be lucky for it to be worth 15 thousand.
What this means is that by buying four wheel drives that have already got modifications on them you can save a lot of money. On the other hand though, they are modified to go further off road and as a result they are likely to have done a considerably amount of four wheel driving. This is usually not a good thing as trucks that have lived off road break easier and are usually less reliable. Ultimately you come to a compromise between these two facts, and you have to find something that you are happy with.
I would suggest looking for a four wheel drive with modifications that are not too extreme, unless you know the owner. For example, bar work is common on four wheel drives however if you want to get a Suzuki sierra with 37 inch tires, dual diff locks and a 6 inch lift you are looking at something that has probably had a hard life!
